Lawyers United Front Paid Tribute in Delhi to Former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir who passed away on Sunday morning in Kolkata who was 68 years old due to his prolonged illness.

Born on 19 July, 1948 in Kolkata, Justice Kabir did his LLB and MA from the University of Calcutta and was made a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court on 6 August, 1990

President of lawyers united front Advocate Rajiv Agnihotri  Said “Late CJI Altamas Kabir would rule the heart of masses and would be always remembered by lawyers and judicial officers at large”

Advocate Pradeep Kumar Sharma Member Rohini Court Bar Association Delhi  “Late CJI Altamas Kabir would also be remeberd for his controversy during the last days of his tenure when former Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya had alleged that Kabir had blocked his elevation to the Supreme Court”

Advocate Madhusudan Agnihotri who is practicing in supreme court of India said “Late CJI Altamas Kabir was part of the bench hearing the case of the two Italian Marines who allegedly shot dead two Kerala fishermen, taking them to be pirates.”

Advocate Amit Bhardwaj Remembered Late CJI Altamas Kabir having political back ground too  “ His uncle Humayun Kabir was a minister in the union cabinets of Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shashtri.”

Advocate Punit Jain said “ During his tenure as a Supreme Court judge, Justice Kabir delivered several important judgments, particularly relating to human rights and election laws. One of the most important cases he presided over was that of Sandhya Manoj Wankhede of Amravati district in 2011. In this case the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Kabir and Cyriac Joseph ruled that female relatives of a husband can also be booked under the DV Act.”
